Deerfield Raceway PR / Mel's Towing Season Opener

On the Mel's Towing Season Opener at Deerfield Raceway the fans came and were not disappointed in the excitement they anticipated for this new race season. In the Micro Sprint Division Sean Mc Andrew took over the top spot on lap 4 from early race leader & pole sitter Joey Sanger ,coming from 3rd. Deerfield vet DJ Furney,Malvern driving the Watson family Hot Rod climbed 2 to finish 3rd. Completing the top 5 were Todd Reusser ,Minerva and George Hobaugh. Following the top 5 were JJ Lute, J. Haefke Jr., JC Hay, R. Fredericks, J. Boyle, T. Eakin, RJ Robertson, Pete Ries, Bob Robertson, Sterling Theiss DNS.
Heats went to JC Hay, Sanger.
In the TUSA Mod Lite Division 2009 Hoosier Tire Point Champ Doug Stanley, N. Benton jumped into 1st. ,getting by Chas Wolbert on Lap 3. 2008 Point Champ slid into 2nd. on lap 3 behind Stanley. The two veteran drivers put on a show for the fans,most of the race nose to tail.Stanley made no mistakes this night giving the Larry Coen car their first win of the year. Miller finished 2nd. while Jay Dye grabbed the 3rd. spot after battling Wolbert laps 6 through 14.Anthony Gillespie driving for Mark Williams stayed up front all night taking home 4th. , while Deerfield regular Jim Gump took home the 5th.spot. Following Gump were G. Buck, E. Wilson, D. Innes, M. McDonald, S. Tanner, Wolbert, K. Yount, K. Nicolino, P. Green.
In the newly formed Charger Division outside polesitter Josh Walker took the lead from Calvin Clay, driving for Terry Ohl,on lap 2 and didn't look back. Walker lead the race 14 laps of the 15 lap event and took the lead in his heat race on the last lap. Vet Calvin Clay scooped up the second spot followed by Art Williams,Leavittsburg. Brother Ted Williams took home 4th. while Darrell Lewis completed the top 5. Following Lewis were A. Heath, J. Smith, B. Johnson.
In the Summit Racing Sportsman Classic Division Chris Logan, filling in for an ailing Kyle Lawrence, took home the gold Saturday night. Logan took the lead on lap 8 snatching the spot from early leader Jeff Eboch,Ravenna. Eboch took home second followed by soph Allen Teeters who started 5th. Polesitter & newcomer Levi Walters ended the race 4th. in a racy group of Sportsman Classics,for an awesome finish. John Lutton completed the top five followed by B. Stuhldreher, T Lawrence, J. Darocha, J. Myers, S. Loy, A. Buttermore, G. Davis.Heats were won by Logan and Todd Lawrence.
The Deerfield Raceway E-Mod Division Bob Bland took home his first victory of the year. Following Bland was R. Hermann, G. Crouch, T. Moore, E. Brown. Bland also took the checkered on his heat.
Derek Weisant in the Mel's Towing Compact Division returned to his winning ways in 2010 taking home the first feature event of the year. Weisant led every lap to take the win over Aaron Dadisman. Dadisman followed Weisant with determination for a great finish. Tony Parsons, Mike Wilson, Tim Wertz, Buzz Bender, Darryl Paron, Geoff Bronder, Darryl Justice, Luke Freed completed the feature event.Pre-lim went to Bronder.
The Jr. Sprints winner was Cameron Nastasi not unfamiliar with the winner's circle starting off the season with a big win. The running order after Nastasi was Matt Haefke, Jade Rosan, Maranda Myers, Brandon Smith, Danielle Tuttle DNS.
In the Deerfield Raceway Jr. Mod Division young Breyton Santee swept the events on their debut night winning his heat & feature. Shayne Meadows led the feature event for the first 14 laps, conceding to Santee on the white flag lap. Tyler Frankenberry took home 3rd. for a great run.
